There are two types of red agate: East Carnelian and West Carnelian. The former refers to the Carnelian formed by heating natural iron containing agate, also known as “burnt red agate”, which includes bright red and orange red. The latter refers to natural red agates, including dark red and bright red ones.
- Agates unearthed in ancient China are all Western red agates, which are mostly from the West, hence their name. When red agate has fine stripe structures, it belongs to the category of entangled agate. The blue agate products produced in the Chinese market are mostly artificially dyed, with a uniform color that is easy to distinguish from natural ones.
